Headache and Migraine Splints

Recent developments in splint or mouth guard designs have created treatments for migraine headaches, TMJ (temporal mandibular joint) problems and chronic tension headaches. By relieving stresses on the jaw joints and the muscles used to close the jaws we can reduce the headaches a patient experiences.

The splint we use is designed to shut down muscle activity. Try this little exercise to see how this splint works. Place a hard Bic type pen between your back teeth so that you can close down only on your molars or icuspids. Feel your temple muscle on the side of your head just above the eye and back towards the era. Feel how much the muscle moves and how much force you can generate. Please don't crush the pen. Now place the pen between only the front middle two teeth on the upper and lower jaws. like you are trying to bite it off. Feel the same muscles. You should feel a significant reduction in the movement and strength of that temporal muscle. This is exactly what we do with our splint therapy. We capture your bodies own defense mechanism to protect you from yourself. The splint we use is called the NTI splint and you can read more about it at www.nti-tss.com.
